Ben Darger and Anne Quakenbush spoke to the GSCA on Tuesday evening as BYU GSCM alumni and representatives of Walmart E-Commerce, where they both work as Supply Chain Analysts.
They focused their time on the interesting challenges inherent in transitioning a massive retail operation to the online marketplace. For example, Walmart’s private label products excel in their brick-and-mortar establishments but do very little business online where brand recognition is essential for conscious consumers. Walmart is in the unique position of being the #1 retailer in terms of revenue for over 20 years, which makes their transition to the world of E-Commerce especially intriguing. Supply Chain analysts are responsible for managing inventory levels, maintaining vendor relations, and adapting business operations to meet the adapting market. These responsibilities are indispensable for Walmart’s E-Commerce and any business wishing to succeed in the modern market.
Huge thanks to Ben and Anne for taking the time to speak with the club despite the current travel concerns. BYU GSCM has the best alumni network in the Marriott School, filled with individuals who are equal parts impressive and generous. Ben and Anne are excellent representatives of our program and we wish them all the best in their future endeavors.
