A brief summary of GSCM

Overview

Supply chain management involves the control and coordination of materials and services from the original point of origin to the final point of consumption. Increasing competitiveness through higher quality, lower cost, greater responsiveness, and unique innovation is a critical aspect of supply chain management. Likewise, managing across boundaries within a firm and throughout a channel is emphasized.

Options

The coursework for this emphasis prepares students for positions in purchasing and supply management, inventory management, logistics/transportation management, quality assurance, and operations management. Career paths also lead to executive-level positions such as chief supply chain officer, chief purchasing officer, chief logistics officer, and chief operations officer. Since many supply chains are becoming global, there are excellent opportunities for individuals with international exposure or interest in working for multinational firms.

Outlook

Previous supply chain management students have worked for companies such as 3M, Amazon, Boeing, Caterpillar, Cummins, Deloitte, Goldman Sachs, Honeywell, Intel, Intermountain Health, Nestle-Purina, Savage Services, Toyota, Walmart, and Whirlpool.
