Why apply to be a student club officer?

The student clubs are considered to be the extracurricular arm of the programs.  They provide social benefit, career enhancement, and leadership experience.  Traditionally, club leaders are some of the most connected students in the program, both within the program and outside of the program.  Some of the club leaders meet with our Advisory Board in February and October (described below).  Club leadership is a great resume item, and opens the possibility of qualified letters of recommendation from faculty.  In past years our club leaders have had some of the best placement in the program, which is likely a function of their leadership abilities.

Applying to be a club officer

The President and Executive Vice Presidents are selected according to the club charter.  This forms the club Executive Committee.  All students can apply for an Executive Committee position and the prior club leaders can recommend students.  Applications are due by the end of the second week of winter semester, so that we can identify new leader before the February Advisory Board meeting.  After the faculty have selected the Executive Committee (by end of January), the Executive Committee will then discuss and invite VPs and Directors over specific tasks, which should be completed by the middle of March.  The first week of April, the Executive Committee will direct a club leadership meeting involving all club leaders, the purpose being to motivate club leaders and to present the plan for the upcoming school year.
