Preparing posts

Articles (posts) are typically 250-500 words.

Articles must include a picture uploaded as the “Featured Image.” The picture must be your own photograph or be publicly usable.  The picture should have resolution between 170×170 and 1000×1000 and be less than 2MB in size.  Note that the featured image will appear next to the post, so does not need to be included within the body of the post.

Posts should put in appropriate categories, which are listed on the right side of the new post page.  By default, posts show up in the “Uncategorized” category, which means it shows up on the website home page but not on any sub-pages.  It is best to select the category for which it is appropriate so that it will show up on the corresponding page.  Please do not spam the website by having a post show up in a bunch of categories it really does not fit in.

Posting for review

After login in, you can post an article by clicking the “+ New” button at the top and select “Post.”  You can save the post as a draft, and when you are ready you can submit it for review.

After an article is posted on the website it will be reviewed by an editor.  If the article is of sufficient quality, it will be posted on the website.  The best articles have the possibility of being featured in our semiannual BYU GSCM e-newsletter.

Your name in the byline

Articles posted on the website list the name of the person submitting the article.  By default, it is usually just the last name of the submitter.  To show your full name, click the “Howdy” menu in the upper-right-corner of this screen (which appears after you have logged in).  Select “Edit My Profile” and enter the display name you would like to use.
