We have the opportunity to hear from many great guest speakers in the Global Supply Chain Program. Our most recent guest speaker was Scott Moscrip, owner and founder of Internet Truckstop Group.
While Scott studied physics as an undergrad, he came up with the idea to create an online presence which would enable truckers to obtain jobs and monitor their expenses. He launched this idea with the help of family and friends and branded it the “Internet Truckstop”. This business has since enabled him to invest his earnings in multiple new successful business ventures. He mentioned to us during our discussion that he is currently analyzing upwards of 50 new business ideas and he is constantly looking for new ways to improve his current business.
Most valuable in this lecture was Scott’s willingness to answer our questions. Practically the entirety of the lecture consisted of students asking questions and Scott answering those questions. Some of these questions included concepts such as what general successful habits to have while engaging in business, how Scott is positioning his company to be successful in the future, what obstacles he faces in the trucking industry, and where he sees the trucking industry headed.
Hearing Scott and his wife talk about the freedom of owning their own business was definitely an inspiring experience for everyone in attendance. I for one am definitely excited about what I learned concerning growing and pivoting in the marketplace. This lecture was overall a great experience for everyone in attendance.
