Cougars Take Harvard: Women’s Leadership Conference

Joined by other women from the Marriott School, women from the global supply chain program had the amazing opportunity to spend the weekend at Harvard Business School for a leadership conference. The keynote speaker Carine Clark, a fellow BYU cougar, emphasized the importance of “choosing courage over comfort.” Additionally, she talked about “learning the language of speaking up.” Oftentimes, women are tentative to make a statement or ask a question, when in reality, the opinions of the women in the room need to be heard.

Following a day of breakout sessions and different speakers, the BYU students met up for dinner with the BYU alumni who are currently pursuing a Master of Business Administration at Harvard. At this dinner, the students had an opportunity to spend time networking with students from across the country as well as with those in other programs in the Marriott School.

This gave students another opportunity to build relationships and ask questions to alumni that have experience in the industries students are interested in. Carly Goff, a senior in the program, said of her experience; “Sometimes being in Provo, it’s easy to have tunnel vision and think there is only one path to success. Talking to the alumni in Boston helped widen my perspective and teach me that my opportunities in the world are limitless.”

The other highlights of the trip came from visiting the local historical sites in downtown Boston, playing food trivia at the Quincey Market, and making multiple trips to Shake Shack. This is just one example of the many great opportunities for women that the global supply chain program provides. We look forward to seeing some of our BYU global supply chain cougars wearing crimson red in the next couple of years!
