This past Thursday, Dan Carrell, VP of Procurement at IBM spoke with Global Supply Chain students about his work with IBM and the leading innovations that the company is making. These include advancements in technologies such as IBM Watson, AI/Cognition, Blockchain analytics, and more.
A few key takeaways include:
- The purpose of these technologies is to allow us to use data to not only improve a business, but also to improve the speed of business.
- The tools that IBM has spent time developing help to increase transparency in a company and its supply chain.
- IBM is seeking to provide analytics capabilities to companies. They have been procuring and partnering with companies, such as the Weather Company and Maersk, that will help IBM to gather and provide useful data to customers.
Students agreed that it was a valuable learning experience to hear from Dan Carrell. Many felt inspired by technological innovations that will help to provide supply chain solutions. Below is one of many videos that Dan shared, demonstrating a supply chain solution that IBM provides for blockchain.
The BYU Global Supply Chain Management program is grateful to Dan Carrell for the time that he spent with us. We look forward to future opportunities to hear from him and other leaders in Supply Chain.
